The growing number of Homeless, Orphaned, and Displaced children is a significant problem for communities in the United States and around the world. Tens of millions of children are living without one or both of their parents and many kids experience homelessness and displacement due to various factors such as natural disasters, armed conflicts and forced or undocumented migration. The lack of a qualitative home structure exposes them to countless hardships, including inadequate shelter, limited access to basic needs and increased vulnerability to exploitation and abuse. They experience heightened levels of stress and anxiety as a result of the challenges they face daily. These circumstances disrupt their education and emotional well-being, also making it harder for them to make friends and feel good about themselves.

Providing quality education for high-risk kids is a complex issue that differs greatly depending on the individual child, however there a several ways that help improve almost every child’s ability:

1. Mentorship: Mentors (and parents) can use special tools and activities to help these kids adjust, catch up if they've fallen behind and ultimately succeed academically.

2. Supportive Environment: Creating a supportive and encouraging environment in the classroom and after school helps kids feel comfortable and confident.

3. Teamwork and Communication: Teachers, parents, and others work together as a team to understand and support the needs of kids living in high-risk situations.
